Much ado about Obama’s speech

Much ado has been made about Obama’s speech. It was touted as a major policy speech designed to re-energize his base of political support and restore momentum to the health care reform movement. The president excoriated his detractors for playing “games” and for meaningless “bickering.”

Apparently in this Republic, not agreeing with and applauding on cue the diatribes of your leader is tantamount to bickering or game playing not a legitimate case of citizens seeking a redress of grievances.

At one point during Obama’s oratation, he was interrupted by a hot tempered GOP representative from South Carolina who stated (accurately) that the president was lieing. Of course his outburst was ill timed, but then again how else would you expect someone to respond when our very freedom is being stolen by someone skilled in the art of deception. The big lie in Obama’s speech was not that coverage would not be provided to illegal aliens. The true lie was Obama’s fictional assertion that the $1 trillion spending farce will not add a penny to the deficit. Only the greatest of fools could belive such fantasy. Perhaps the president was miffed by the characterization but then again when did the office of president become such a shrine to an individual. When did the president become a monarch?

What is missing (as usual) from these debates as to what legitimate right does the US government have in dictating and/or imposing such requirements on private citizens. Perhaps for some (primarliy) leftists, the question of federalism and the proper place fopr government was settled years ago, but for others we can still read John Locke and recognize when a social contract has been broken. This US constitution has been violated more times than the average human can count, why bother to hold true to any of its tenets when so many have be cast into the dustbin of history? There is no limited government in America, the very suggestion of a soverign people is comedy in the highest sense.
