Attention all heterosexuals!

Marriage is “under attack,” according to the President and key members of Congress. The president is pushing hard for the Congress to green light his proposal for a Constitutional Amendment banning Gay marriage.

As the President and Senator Frisk recently noted, marriage as we know it, is under attack and this amendment is needed to ensure that marriage is saved. If this gay marriage ban is not enshrined in our constitution, heterosexual couples will no longer be able to get married. Eager couples seeking marriage licenses will be turned away in droves, men and women will be forced into sex change operations in order to marry the person they love, soon only same sex couples will have the ability to marry, millions of children will be born out of wedlock and society as we know it will cease to exist. Such is the scenario the anti-gay marriage crowd would have us believe.

In reality marriage or traditional marriage, has be under attack for decades and homosexuality has little if anything to do with it. Marriage is under attack from the same forces that have waged war on the institution since the time of Christ: Lust, Money, Adultery, Abuse, Envy, etc…

Today roughly half of all marriages will end in divorce, it is doubtful that gay men and woman had much to do with influencing these statistics. Regardless of one’s opinion on gay marriage, the premise that the federal government should not define the institution is utterly preposterous. Marriage is defined by the states as it has been for over 200 years and there is no justification for this gross usurpation of federal authority to impose an unnecessary ban on something which should be of no concern to anyone except those parties involved.

Is marriage under threat in this country? Yes, and perhaps if conservatives in Congress were truly concerned about preserving the institution they would speak out against the chief causes of marital disunion in this country, but then again to do so would require that they speak out against that which they themselves are guilty of, thus they invent an enemy to serve as the focus of their grievances, heaping blame on a minority of Americans whose personal actions have no baring on society at large, an act known to frequent Phalanx visitors as pulling a Mussolini. In so doing they appeal to their conservative base. If the GOP wants to win elections try living up to the credo of smaller government, lower taxes and less spending and stay out of other people’s bedrooms.
