As if anyone needed to be reminded that Russia acts in the best interest of Russia and the rest of the world be damned, reports out over the weekend further implicate Russia in aiding Iran’s efforts to acquire and develop advanced weapons systems. We all know how deeply involved Russia has become in advancing Iran’s nuclear program, now it seems, Russia has also been implicated in developing Iranian missile technology. Apparently, Iran has a lucrative deal with North Korea, to purchase various missiles systems, a deal, which was facilitated by the Russians. The Russians have also been complicit in covertly transporting the weaponry between North Korea and Iran. This new missile technology will give Iran a new found capability to strike targets deep in to the heart of Europe. Other weapons being smuggled into Iran have a range that would put the Western US in danger.
Given Russia’s experiences in the Caucuses region one has to ask the question “Is Putin insane?” If there were ever a country that clearly understood the threat of terrorism for what it was you would think that would be Russia. There is no question that Iran has been a long time supporter of global terror in an on going effort to expand the footprint Islam. Why would Russia support such a cause, when Russia is clearly in the crosshairs of the radical mullahs? Thousands of Russians have died at the hands of Islamic radicals, yet Putin cooperates with one of radical Islam’s chief facilitators. Does anyone doubt that Iran will proliferate once these weapon systems are operational? Exactly how long will it be before Al Qaeda has nuclear weapons and advanced missile technology, once Iran possesses these weapons? One can rest assured that it won’t be long. Russia is sacrificing its future (and the rest of the world’s future) for short-term monetary gain.
